One day can make a lasting difference—and on April 23, 2026, that’s exactly what’s happening during Caged for a Cause, a powerful fundraising event benefiting the West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS).
Now in its third year, this unique initiative challenges volunteers to step into the lives of shelter animals by spending time inside kennels at the WSHS Adoption Center. Each participant commits to raising $2,500—the average cost of caring for five animals—helping provide essential veterinary care, food, shelter, and enrichment for dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes.
A New Way to Experience the Cause
This year, WSHS is partnering with Gerald Subaru of Naperville to bring the experience directly into the community. A kennel will be set up inside the dealership showroom, where special guest participants will take part in the challenge while livestreaming throughout the day.
Viewers can tune in via Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube to follow along, donate, and support the cause in real time.
Why It Matters
Every dollar raised directly impacts the lives of animals in need. Donations help fund medical care, daily nutrition, safe shelter, and enrichment activities that improve the well-being of every dog and cat at WSHS.
Volunteers like Jenna Smoot—who has fostered over 100 kittens—highlight just how life-changing this organization is, not only for animals but for the people who care for them.
Proudly Supporting the Cause
Keleen Leathers is proud to support this year’s event. Our sponsored participant, a dedicated weekly volunteer, will take part in the challenge to help raise funds and awareness for the shelter animals.
“As each animal finds their forever home, it’s a life saved. Supporting this mission means continuing the fight for animals who deserve care, compassion, and a second chance.”
